1. Who this site is for
Dangon Books is for readers of every age, and children are part of that audience. Books are shelved by reading level, and everything on a children's shelf is meant to be fine for a ten-year-old to open without a parent standing behind them.
Adult shelves hold classic literature that deals with adult subjects โ that is what makes them adult shelves. Nothing on this site is pornographic, and nothing is placed where its shelf would mislead a reader about what is inside it.
2. Why we can host a book
A book is only added when one of these is true, and the reason is printed on the book's own page along with a link to where the file came from:
- Its copyright has expired and it is in the public domain in the United States, where this site is operated.
- It is published under a Creative Commons or similar licence whose terms allow us to redistribute it, and we follow those terms including attribution.
- Dangon wrote and produced it.
We do not host files whose rights we cannot show, and we do not accept uploads from visitors. "Widely available elsewhere" is not a reason, and neither is "nobody would mind".
3. Never in the library
- Sexual content, and any depiction of a minor in a sexual context under any circumstances.
- Material whose point is to demean a group of people โ slurs, hate propaganda, harassment.
- Instructions for making weapons, drugs, or explosives.
- In-copyright books, pirated scans, and files with an unclear provenance.
- Anything that asks a reader for personal information, or links out to a site that does.
Older public-domain works sometimes carry the prejudices of their time. Where a text is of real literary or historical value but reads badly today, it is shelved for older readers and its page says so. Where the offence is the point of the book, it is not shelved at all.
4. Age shelves
Shelves are guidance for parents and teachers, not a gate. Nothing here checks a reader's age, asks for one, or blocks a page โ because doing that would mean collecting information about children, which this site will not do.
5. Nothing user-generated
There is no chat, no comments, no reviews, no usernames and no way to upload anything. Nobody can send a child a message through this site, because the site has no channel for one.
6. Reporting a book, and takedowns
If you hold rights in something published here, or a book crosses a line we missed, email dango@dangon.co with the book's title and the page it is on. We take the file down while we look into it, rather than after โ see the terms for the formal notice procedure, and the contact page for other subjects.
